The vast majority of teenage pregnancies are unplanned. Becoming pregnant is a life changing experience for a teen. When a teen becomes pregnant, the responsibility can be overwhelming. Reducing teen pregnancy is an important challenge. So is supporting pregnant teens through pregnancy and motherhood.

The big jump was in year-olds, which rose to the highest rate since I personally draw a pretty big distinction between high school pregnancy and young adult pregnancy. Lumping them all together in the summary as the report does seems designed to generate unnecessary concern and controversy. Does the Guttmacher report count married teenagers in their studies? My guess is that first list red states have much higher rates of teenage marriage as well.
Mick Mulvaney is usually proud to make his case for domestic spending cuts, however destructive. So it is strange and perhaps telling that OMB buried its decision to kill the important Teen Pregnancy Prevention program. It addresses a serious social problem with vast costs spanning generations. And it works. The decision to terminate the program was based on ideology rather than evidence.
We watch the lives of these teen moms , either curious to see how different their lives are from ours, how hard it would be to have a kid, or just purely for the drama involved. The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy asked around1, teens about how they felt about these programs and found that, in general, shows like these make us think more about the possibility of getting pregnant and how to avoid it. I was really curious to see if this was true, so I asked some of my friends what they thought. Which made me wonder…how effective are these programs really?
